When protected by law, the right to keep whatever one invents or produces leads to tremendous prosperity, and solves the problem of poverty. No one figured this out and enshrined it in public policy prior to the American Revolution. This is why America quickly went from a nation of poor subsistence farmers to the most wealthy, powerful, prosperous nation on Earth.
