The Virtues of Citizenship
December 11, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Featuring Dr. Thomas Krannawitter, on the subject of American citizenship.
With regard to the few who hold positions of government power, Thomas Jefferson once suggested, we ought to “bind [them] down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”
Jefferson’s advice, while sound, requires citizens who are at least familiar with what their Constitution is, what it means, and what its purposes are. And to know the purposes of the Constitution as well as the government it authorizes is to know the rights, responsibilities, and duties of citizens.
The United States places its destiny in the hands of citizens who are free to make of their country what they will. What to do with the United States, what it should be, or what it should become, are questions with which every generation of Americans must wrestle and decide for themselves.
Those questions begin with the idea of American citizenship and what it means.
