It’s common to hear that the Constitution is old, outdated, racist, sexist, or otherwise immoral, and therefore not worthy of modern Americans. If the Constitution be considered at all, many argue, it should be considered merely as a “living” document. Are these Constitutional critiques correct? We cannot know without knowing the original premise, purpose, and design of the Constitution, which is this month’s topic.

This was the project that came to be known as progressivism. It required nothing less than a rejection of the idea of constitutional government. And it explains much about our politics today.
